Safelight was no help. The tech was a really nice/knowledgeable guy. He came out, looked at my car and said "I was afraid of that". Afraid of what you ask? Afraid of my car being in really good condition. Why? Because our original glass has a copper based (per him) bronze tone tint across the back. Their stocked glass is green. He wouldn't install it, said he'd done enough that he knew he'd end up pulling it back out because I'd hate it. I deferred to him as he's the glass guy and he's right...it looked like crap.

So I called Safelight today and the lady spent 2 minutes trying to convince me that green glass would be fine...no it'll look like hell. Safelight also has no bronze glass anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions or am I headed to the dealership? Though it would be cool to have the Mercedes sticker still :)

You can get the $1.00 sticker from the dealer later, replaced my sticker in my w124. Anywho, what about finding glass installers that feature Pilkington Glass? I thought they were the OEM guys for our heated windshields( wondering if the SD's came with heated windshield actually)

They do. The tech was telling me about it and how there's a bladder that keeps the windshield warm and makes it a PITA to swap out. Will look into the Pilkington glass and sticker :D

I recommend just going to the dealer. They still stock sedan glass (SEC, too, but it doesn't fit) and your insurance should cover it. At least mine did when pushed just a little. They even covered new chrome strips.

The bladder is no big deal. It's just a reservoir with a felt pad that's up against the glass. Here's a pic.

My glass guy had a long, dull blade that fit down between the dash and the glass to cut the old seal. It just cruised right over the heater. The old seal was along that body-colored strip you see just above the heater pad. I've cleaned all the old glue off in this pic.

Went through an absolute nightmare trying to get my back glass replaced. Apparently it is a fairly difficult job as those things go and nobody around here wanted to touch it. $1200 for the glass and $700 for the trim. Thank God insurance covered it as no way I was going to just to get rid of the delamination issue. What does the front glass cost from the dealer?

My SEC glass was about $500 from the dealer. Didn't price SEL glass yet.
