front license plate mount install

My new to me 14 sport wagon needs the front plate holder installed. Original owners state was rear plate only. Looking at the OE holder, seems to require 5 holes. Most holders just need a pilot hole and the screws hold it on. This holder has sort of a plastic molly/ anchor thing going on. Screw expands the anchor.

Also, looks like the plate will not be flat ... anybody know of a proper surround for the plate? w/o a frame the car washes bend the cheap license plates

Went through this exact issue. OE from plate bracket is angled, to fit the bumper perfectly. It’s worth the $100 to get the right mount.

Mine took 3 drilled holes. Had the dealer do it, couldn’t bring myself to drill it.

Even with the OE front plate bracket, the surface for the plate isn’t completely flat by design. Still some bend of the plate, but not as much as the native angle of the bumper.

Well, maybe you can get longer screws that will hold both the plate and the mount in place at the same time if possible. I’m afraid I didn’t try the original front mount so I don’t know. This was a Cali car and when I bought it used it didn’t have a front plate, a ticket able offense. So I just continued to find a way not to drill it. I had to send rho-plate a few pictures of the tow hook with a ruler next, with the tow hook attached from above and from side I think. I got a discount for providing these pictures. All other cars are drilled in the household, except a Scion iQ has threaded holes for a front plaque. I drilled the plate to screw it down instead of making more holes in the bumper.

Yes, I hated to drill my front bumper also but the OEM mount fits really nicely and provides 4 x 6 mm threaded holes to attach your plate frame. You can get a curved plate frame on Amazon for these mounts which pulls the plate down very nicely with no gaps using the four screws.
