OK - this is really dumb but how do these work? I can't tell if mine are working or not, do the windshield wipers need to be on for the light wipers to work? I have a 300TE 4-Matic and have so many questions, this being one of them. Please advise.

1)headlights must be turned ON
2)pull the stalk on the right and side of the steering column toward you. You will get washer fluid on your headlights and your windshield.
It's the only time they come on.

Easiest way to test them is to drive up in front of a large plate glass window of a store or office where you can see the reflection of the front of the car clearly, turn on your lights, and activate your windshield washer, with the turn signal stalk.

Then you'll see them work

Thanks for the tips - it doesn't go into detail in the book and this car is so foreign to me I just push the buttons to see what happens next.
