Hell o,
This Summer I will be doing a little work on my newly acquired Panoramic Roof.
I will be replacing the front garnish as indicated with the red line in the attaches photo. Anyone know what is involved. Is there a WIS instruction for this that anyone might give me?
I think it will involve r&r of the very expensive seal at the front of the roof that meets with the top of the windscreen, so I want to do it correctly. Is there a WIS for this also?

Profoundliest regurgitations,
D.

You may need to remove the side ones as well first. When my pano was resprayed they removed all the trim before painting.

The first piece off was the one at the bottom of the rear window this is unscrewed from underneath, the 2 side pieces are retained with 3-4 clips and removed with a plastic trim removal lever, working from back to front. The clips are very tight so care needs to be taken when levering so that the garnish is not damaged or twisted. I was not around for the front garnish but am of the opinion that it is also clip on. (make sure first)

Be aware that when the garnish is replaced there may be a tendency for water to leak between the edge of the seal and the roof and drip inside.
I remedied this by running clear flowable silicone under the edges of the seal all round after fitting.

Hi,
I like this idea with the liquid silicone.
Here is my list of annoying questions:
By 'seal' do you mean the weather strip?
So you used the silicone after re-installation of the garnishes..
Between the metal of the roof and the weather stripping or between the weatherstripping and the garnishes or what?
Trim off excess with a Stanley knife?
Is the weatherstripping separate or attached to the garnishes? Is the weatherstripping glued down or just held down by the garnishes?
I am in the process of downloading an emanual for the r129 so I should have instructions with photos or diagrams on the process.

Thank you Poundy,
Darragh

I noticed the leak after the job was done. It was found when hosing the car down and at speed in heavy rain.

It was between the seal and the roof, the garnish just presses down and tightens the seal to the roof.

It may have been ageing seals or weak garnish clips. On reflection it may have been prudent to add the sealant under the seal before relocating the garnish. But as you presumed running it under the seal and trimming with a blade then peeling the surplus, cured the leak.

When removing the garnish just leaver under the garnish and not under the seal. The seal fits separately and around the clips, it can be removed after if required.
