Had the dilemma whey my E320 4-Matic had CV joint going going bad and I hesitated to spend $1200 for new axle without shopping around.
SA said it will definitely demobilize the vehicle and that was one of those rare moments when I trusted him.
With no differential lock you are screw.

That's what my mechanic was thinking too.
I was hoping that wasn't the case, but he is good guy and i still trust him.
