Cool! :D Congrats on the new car!
I also owned the R170 (one 230 and one 32) in the past but the R171 is a whole other ballgame.

I don't know much about the r170, was never interested in that model due to it's styling, the r171 is a fun car, and looks much better IMHO.

Here's the MB Part # 170-820-06-75, see if your local MB dealer will order it for you. Most of the ones around here would order it for me, it's about $65-$70 US from the dealer. Mine should arrive Monday, can't wait to install it.

Cheers....picked up a freebie from the dealer for a current SL500 on the way home this afternoon, I understand that it will fit.

congratulations on new car :) I'll have to look for my silver twin on the Melbourne roads! Still relatively rare on Victorian roads, so I tend to notice SLKs when i see them.... I'll be the black 280(should be shiny, i just Zaino'ed it this weekend!) that you pass

Btw, is that a pic of the car on a street in South Yarra? looks familiar

I am one that still prefers the R170 shape over the R171 although without doubt the newer model is a better all round car its just the shape of the R170 I love, yes I still have my R170 bought new Sep 1998, R171 bought new Jul 04.

Same here. and to be even more honest, i think the R170's are one of the ugliest cars still on the roads today.

I don't know if I'd go that far. The R170s aren't THAT bad looking when you compare them to most American-made cars. Check out the Gremlins, Pintos, and Azteks that are still running around.

The photo was taken at Apollo Bay after a morning run with a few others.

Perhaps Melbourne R170 & R171 meet up ????

Also as per the other posts I love the R170 and I wish I could keep it, IMO it has aged well and still looks good today. Have aged better than a Z3

Why the design of the R170 is so appealing to me is that it is simple and usually its the simpliest design that is the best, if it had been produced with twin headlights it would have been a mini SLR, brilliant, the R171 is a bit to fussy for me, far to many humps and bumps and the interior does nothing for me, its coming up to 3 year old in a few months and about to be traded in..

If you look close you can see the stone chip I received right in the middle of the screen after having the car one hour.

No offense intended, but "lose the bra, bro." It totally detracts from the great styling of the SLK.

Are those common in Australia? It's the first one I've seen. For me, I'd rather put up with the occassional rock chips and re-paint the front end, if needed, to preserve the clean lines of the car. Just MHO.

I agree, unless I know I'm going offroad and or cross-country with my SLK, I would not put that bra on it.

The car bra came with the car and is excellent out in the country where there are heaps of trucks, road trains and single carriage way roads along with the odd kangaroo, emu and other wildlife that like to cross the road....it is only used for long country drives saves headlights and foglights too.

Car bra comes off for around the burbs.

 My thoughts EXACTLY. Couldn't have said it better. MBSLKO, I can appreciate your reply. Sorry about the stone chip on the windshield, OUCH. Enjoy the new R171.
