Going back to when we used to bomb along the French Toll roads on our ZZR1100's and 1300cc Hyabusas - we always wondered whether the guys in the toll stations had any way of quickly calculating our average speed using a distance / time formula (taking the entry / exit points as a reference). For this reason and to possibly avoid unwanted 'on the spot' fines we'd hammer along the road and then stop for a few minutes in the area just where you go to pay just to let a bit of time catch up! heheheheheh:) :) :)
Does anyone really know for sure whether this was all a bit of urban myth or can they nail you?

Apparently, some of the toll booths have a way of recording your time by basing it on the time at which you took your entry ticket. I've never had it happen to me (I don't drive like a loon on the French highways), but according to my sources, it is true and it happens.

Yes - they definitely take the average between the booths. I believe when you give your ticket to the booth guy and he enters it into the machine it will state there and then if you have been speeding. Hence why you always see French police at the tolls so they can be called over todeal with you.

I think it is a myth spread by autoroute restaurant owners to make sure people stop at their restaurants to drop down their speed average.:p

At least you have nice service stops in France. God help us if they make us do it in the UK and we have to keep stopping at the awful service restaurants we have!! :(

Agree. My wife and I travel to England from Germany via the French toll roads (MUCH better than going through Belgium) several times per year. I tend to avererage about 90-95 - but only if traffic is light and the weather is good. I have never had a problem with police (have seen a few) or tickets at the booths. They are VERY good roads and tend to have lighter traffic - but you do pay for the advantages.

Can you get Costa outside the UK? Can't find it in France and there is no equivalent here. Obviously, the best cappuccino is to find in any café in Italy. When I go there, I end up having about 10 a day.

And they charge $3.50 for a cup, I don't get it, I've never been a fan of starbucks, it has a cult like following here, I drive by a couple of Starbucks and it's always packed, I should had opened a starbucks, lol.

Same here, I see it in libraries, book stores, supermarkets, it's everywhere and they seem to be doing well, at least around here in the Littleton suburbs.
