To be clear ; 4 wheel steering was an option- not all U1650 fire trucks
(or otherwise ) had Four Wheel Steering...

Since your being clear...do you know of any other models that had it? I know mogs were basically built to order, and the option sheet was/is probably as flexible or long as your pocketbook, but has anyone seen another model fitted? or if you checked the option order code for crab steer did that mandate 1650?

I don't pretend to know the available options, to be clear. It could be that
All 4-Wheel steer SBU's were U1650's..OR 1600's....I don't know. I was just pointing out that not all U1650's have rear-steer.

Here is some stuff.

The most important question is...are these end of life, and sitting for sale someplace ;)

Yes, they are retired from service, and the UNIMOG in the foreground had
only 15,000 Km on it.
It's in France- and the French UNIMOGGERS were all over it from what I read..., and No, I don't know where in France.

I recall quite a few years ago (late 90's) there was 1 or 2 rear steer Unimog for sale in Ottawa. For some reason 1700 stands out in my mind but they may have been 1600.

The last 2 digits on French license plates denote the department or the region where the vehicle is registered. In this case "34" is Hérault. This area is in the very south of France on the mediterranean. Warm and dry in the summer, I could see how they might need trucks like these in the hills.
