Hey guys, new to the forum and have been trying to digest all of the valuable info I'm finding here on 107's. I found an ad local to me offering two 107's (73 450slc, 80 sl450) for 4k total. Both running but in need of tires. I'm going to check them out today with a checklist I found on here.

From what I gather, it looks like a grandparent passed away and they are selling off his belongings. The goal would be to fix one up and resell while keeping the other for personal use.

As long as they aren't completed rusted out and the motor/trans seem to be running fine I'll most likely go for them as I'm somewhat handy and wouldn't mind the project right now with everything going on. At least from the pictures it looks like the red SLC likely needs paint. Interiors also need some work.

All that being said, happy to listen to any advice or comments from the members here. Thanks in advance.

The fuel injection systems are different. The '73 is Electronic, Bosch D-Jet. The '80 is mechanical, Bosch K-Jet CIS. Both vehicles are subject to the front subframe failure which may have been corrected already. The '80 has the bound to fail Chrysler designed ACC II system.

Did some quick reading on the ACC system and looks like a modern replacement, although pricey, is the best bet. Thank you for that.

I had a 1980 450SL like the one you are considering. Get rid of those chrome eyebrows over each wheel they attract rust. Since they are running consider a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). It was the best $133 I spent, the dealer was able to print out a limited service history. I looked at my old spreadsheets to see what the 1980 needed over time, so I'm pasting the chronological list here just for grins (and maybe a prediction of what might be in store). Major items were the timing chain and new soft top. Had no trouble with the HVAC charged with Envirosafe, maybe I was lucky. Here's what I spent over its two year history (about $5K) before an unlicensed fellow from Honduras totalled it:

I don't see any pics in the either ad? You'd imagine the one for $17k could warrant that.

I think that radio plate is aftermarket option, or maybe it's a fancy add on for hidden radio that's just now shown? It's weird that it protracts forward / is not flat with the rest of the central console and not shown on any close up pics. I recall (could be wrong) that MB factory delete option was a simple black plastic fascia.

The listing says factory original in every aspect, but it’s clear that the VIN has option 519 for a Becker. So something seems fishy.
