Thanks for the responses. You are right. I got excited by seeing a car that really looks like an SLK represented on the Formula 1 circuit. I started watching IndyCar racing a couple of years ago,… Danica fan. The Formula 1 series looks like another exciting venue for me to maybe watch this year. That SL looked so much like an SLK, I wonder how much difference there is now between the SLK and SL.
ANYONE WANT TO HIGHLIGHT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SLK AND SL?
Anyhow, the safety car, upon a quick google turns out to be an awesome fire breathing dragon of an SL63 AMG. See the description below:
“The Mercedes SL63 AMG has been chosen again to be the 2009 F1 Safety Car, and the Mercedes C63 AMG Estate will be one more year the championship’s official medical car. The Mercedes SL63 AMG 2009 F1 Safety Car is powered by a 6.3-litre V8 engine that's good for 386 kW/525 hp and is able to take the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The Mercedes SL63 AMG 2009 F1 Safety Car also comes with a newly developed sport exhaust system with a larger pipe diameter and special rear silencers. The engine is coupled with an AMGSPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with column shift.
For better race track performance the Mercedes SL63 AMG 2009 F1 Safety Car is equipped with a specially developed coil-over suspension, a 3-stage ESP and rear-axle differential lock with 30 percent locking effect.”
Zalaja230 thanks again. Bruce R. yes that was an incredible race in the rain,… lots of spinouts. Grand Prix/open wheel racing is really exciting.
