For Sale: 1970 450SLC 5.0 $5800/obo
Hello,
For sale is my 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SLC 5.0. This is one of the very rare rally homologation cars with the all-aluminum five litre V8 and aluminum hood and trunk lids. These were never officially available in US showrooms, and only a very small number were brought to the States as personal imports.
This particular 5.0, #1143, was brought into the U.S. in 1982 as a personal import, and still has all of its original DOT/EPA documentation. . . . Luckily, however, it has managed to retain its original European bumpers and headlamps all these years.
Mechanically, it is ready to be driven across the continent. All important major mechanical items are in good health, and (just about) all service items are recent. The following have been replaced in the past few years/several thousand miles: Timing chain; brake pads, rotors, calipers (overhaul); suspension: shocks, tie rod ends, ball joints, bushings; fluid and vacuum hoses; tune up parts (plugs, wires, filters, fluids, etc.); injectors cleaned; alternator; water pump; belts; battery; some rubber body/door seals; lots more. I can provide a full list and records to interested buyers.
The body was subject to a trim-off respray in its original color of Icon Gold a few years ago. It is a "body shop quality" job, and aside from a couple of small scratches, still looks new. Underneath the pretty paint lies an overall very solid car that has never been in salt. Photos from before the respray are available.
Where this car is needy most of all is in the interior. To make it presentable, at the very least the front seats need to be reupholstered; however, replacing the faded carpet would be a big improvement, too. To make it show-quality, there are a lot of little bits about the interior that would need attention that would be otherwise okay to most people for just a nice driver.
Also, it has its share of old car quirks. For example, the vacuum-operated power locks don't work right, and the sunroof sometimes only closes an inch or two at a time in cold weather. There are several other similar small issues with the car that don't affect its usability or reliability.
I've been driving the car regularly, both to work and on long trips. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest that a buyer drive it home. Please call (419) seven zero five - six eight three zero if you are interested.
Asking price is $5800, but I am open to offers. More photos available. Car is located in Toledo, Ohio.
Thanks,
Tony K.
