Hi Zazeem,

Picture attached of the engine compartment! Just remove that black rubber screw at the top, remove the metal lid, set it aside, and take a good look at the color of the fluid. It's likely to be a nasty dark brown color. The filter's located at the bottom of that reservoir and given that your PS fluid is likely to be very used, you won't be able to see it.

I just completed a PS fluid change last week. Will do it again soon. I'm gonna post some pics of the process by the end of this month, for the Board's reference, since I'm trying to flush out all the sludge that still resides in my reservoir, and I didn't manage to clear it after 2 rudimentary flushes.

Anyway, what you'll now most likely need to do (assuming your PS fluid is really dirty) is a full drain of your power steering fluid, then a few flushes, and a final top-up.

A guide for this is located at:

http://mbdieseldiy.tripod.com/ps.htm

Make sure that your assistant turns the wheel from lock to lock as you flush the reservoir, and on the final top- up.

Good luck with it, and ask if unsure about anything! The throrough flush and replenish of your PS fluid should remove that groan from your power steering.

RS :)

PS. What model W126 do you have??
