My mechanic had a stand setup with a display of custom burled wood finish
steering wheels.Several of the wheels got chipped when the stand fell over. Questions, Is anyone aware of a facility that can repair these.::surrender:

Only one I'd trust is William Rau: 310-445-1128. They're great.

Hi Benge.

Well, first of all I don't know how minor or how severe the existing damages are with regards to the wood grain.
Secondly, I have never used this product before, however I am wondering if something like this would work:

Fix A Chip Repair Kit

Any other ideas?

How bad is the chip, how deep?

You should run this past an outfit that specialises in wood trim for cars/aircraft for best advice.

These steering wheels are in fact veneer finished using an elaborate process finished with a very tough two part lacquer.

I picked a chipped wheel up a while back and filled in the chips with successive layers of two pack epoxy lacquer and then using wet-n-dry paper managed to get a very acceptable finish - it was still visible, but it was smooth on the hands.
