I've been toying of the first gear start mod for a while. I saw some where recently That if you put the trans in B then D when stopped it will start in first. Is this true in the '90SEC ?

Yep. All Gen Ii w126's have the FGS module.
At a stop, shift from D to B and back to D and your car should start off in First. You can also shift manually to B then slap it sideways to 2, shift to 3 then shift to 4.

If this does not work, then the solenoid wire may be severed. this happens to these car occasionally. Solenoid is in the rear passenger side of the tranny at about 2:00 with one wire coming from it.

It'll light the tires up in ALL the 560's if they are anywhere near good condition.

Please don't flame me for jumping in here, but...

I have never understood the discussions about starting out in second gear. Is this something that happens on a select few cars?

I say this because I currently have two 123's (83 300DT and 85 300CD), one 126 (300SD) and a classic (70 250C). All of these cars start out in first gear every time. They are all 4 speed transmissions and they all shift 3 times when getting up to road speed.

It is my understanding that the diesels DO start in First gear, but the V8's don't. Don't have the foggiest idea about the oldtimer. It was a mileage/Emissions thing with theses cars to be imported into the US.

First words that popped into my head reading this post were "RED LIGHT CHALLENGE!!!"

Why don't our cars start off in first?

It seems to make sense, its very smooth and takes advantage of the torque. I wouldnt otherwise compare our cars to a lorry (!) but when driving lorries its usual to start off in 2nd as theres enough power to do so, but 1st is there if needed. The v8's have loads of torque so it seems similar. Saves on fuel too and would probably lengthen the life of some of the transmission generally?
But if this selecting low and then D works that'd be really fun :)
