Firewall hole

What is this hole in firewall,has a gasket around hole .It is behind the inner fender liner,drivers side .See picture.Nothing goes into it.

Firewakk hole

Thanks RJV,
Somebody was working in this area before me,probably took out plug.
But why would there be a gasket there?WE will just plug it..
