Firewall hole

What is this hole in firewall,has a gasket around hole .It is behind the inner fender liner,drivers side .See picture.Nothing goes into it.

Duct tape it first to see if it get rids of the cold air, then replace it!

I find it extremely gratifying to actually use DUCT tape for making some type of duct repair !!
