Hi to all,

maybe this should have been added to the "First gear start" topic, but as this seems to be a module no-one has yet commented on, I made a new one.

On a website Products they offer a versatile module for relatively cheap price (238 USD with shipping globally). has anyone had any experience with the current device. They say its good for all V8 Mercs untill 1996!

As i have a 1991 420 Euro SEC (w126), which i drive mainly in town. A device of this kind should improve my cars preformance a lot.

Has someone installed it to his car?

Does anyone know if someone has ever used this item?

Thanks,

I have it installed, check the other threads. I've posted quite extensively about how great it is. :)

Welcome to the forum.
To edit your personal profile to include your car mod. and location, you can use
the control panel on the top right.
It makes it easier for members to respond, and offer advice.

Mercedes Benz at www.mbusa.com used to sell the official 2 CD service manual for $ 20. Unfortunately it is not being offered at the present time.
We hope it's only temporary.

You can check the DIY thread above, or type your question into the 'search this forum' box on the top right. It will get you all archived post re. your problem.

You might try the Russian MB site. Don't put in a mod. or vin, click on cars and scroll down, until you get to yours: Êàòàëîã çàï÷àñòåé MB

Good luck

P.S. I believe FGSSwitch is made and marketed by one of our members (coupe?), and cyberdyne has it installed.
You'll find extensive writeups with 'search this forum.'

I found a second FGS for backup at the junk yard yesterday. It was located a little above the steering column under the dash of a 84 Euro 500SEL (only two phillips screws, and $ 5).

I'm not much of a fan...it's fun for a week or two @ which point I basically never use it.

For the few times I 'need' it I don't mind clicking down to B... IMHO it changes the character of the car more then I like esp. around town.

In what way do you think it changes the car so much?

trust me. it's much different in a 500 or 560. a 380 starts in 1st just fine, but the torque from a 500/560 gives you whiplash from minor throttle inputs. it gets pretty damn annoying jerking away from stoplights and tires chirping. thats why it's best to wire it to a switch.

heh, i can floor it in my 380se and it won't chirp.. until it hits second. (that is when it actually decides to start in first)

I am really hoping that there is a big difference in the performance.. Oh and how would one go about wiring the FGS into a switch?

The FGSSwitch module includes directions on how to wire it to either the E/S switch or the window lock switch for NA cars.

Thank you all for advices

As suggested, i went through other topics on FGS as well...

So, i understand that it will give me start in first gear and after reaching, lets say, 10 km/h it will switch to 2nd. But will the characteristics of other gears change.

As you all know, these cars drive on very low revs (town cruising ~1100-~1500 rpm). And the car therefore is not very responsive (acceleration from 30 km/h to 60 km/h), even with kickdown (revs still remain @ 2000 rpm).

Can we somehow change the characteristics of the other gears aswell (besides manual changes from 2nd to 3rd)? and whats more important, will the FGS affect other gears somehow?

Thanks!

FGS is no different then engaging B on your shifter then going back to D. Do that once and you know what the module will do...that's all it does, nothing more, nothing less.

It has no effect on any other gear.

Right, only instead of touching the shifter you just punch it and go!
