Hello BenzWorld!

I'm looking to get my first car soon, and would love to have a W126. However, I do have a few questions about them. I really don't care for speed and such, but just want a good, solid, reliable car. I've been looking into the 300SD and think it'd be the best model for me (I'd really like a diesel).

1. Is there a certain year that would be most desirable (mechanically, aesthetically, etc.) for the 300SD?

2. Would there be any sort of problems/things to specifically look for when looking at one to potentially purchase?

3. Any additional advice for buying a W126/first car in general?

Any answers to any questions are much appreciated.

Thanks,

-Mogems.

There are three things to get with a used Mercedes: Records of Maintanence, Records and Records. Find a good mechanic shop, they will have the ear to the ground on who might have a good 300D for sale.

Hello and welcome :)

I'm not familiar with the diesels but there's tonnes of stiff to get stuck into in the search archives.

Rust in certain places is something to watch out for across the board with all 126 cars.
There are various places, check under the parcel shelf, the window seal goes and under there holds water and rots.
Where the rubber drain tubes exit under the front wings. The rear wheel wells and subframe mount areas.

Good luck and happy hunting.
