Hi there! I'm new to the forum, but I've been dropping in for the past while. I've got 2 Euro spec (non-catalyst) 560 SELs and my father has a Euro 560 SEC.

I see a lot of posts about how quick these cars are. I thought I'd drop a quick post about a little race I got involved in last weekend: Thirty miles of back roads in an SEL, versus a 2003 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale.

The Benz won.

Go figure...

You were both going in the same direction...right? [:D][:D]

Welcome to the board...& I'am sure everyone here wants to see pic's of all your W-126's....I know I do.

Ohh...maybe you could update your profile so we all know your location.

Thanks for the welcome! I'll try to get the pics. The SEC is mint. One of the SELs is ex-embassy and only has 42,000 on the clock. The other has 280,000. They're all 1990's.

I've seen the old SEL with an indicated 165 mph on the clock (racing an Audi S8).

I also had a 1980 380 SEC. It blew up. Twice.

I rebuilt and sold it. I rebuilt one of the 560's as well 'cos the timing was wandering in the wierdest way when I put the timing-light on it. It'd go through every degree on the balancer again and again and again. (Prizes for anyone who can diagnose that one!) (It took me weeks.)

Yep, the 360 was going in the same direction. The only problem racing one of them is praying he doesn't hit the brakes...

It's a rule of life that when a guy driving a Ferrari has a Ferrari hat, Ferrari sunglasses and a Ferrari shirt he's completely without talent.

Sorry mate, but you have to get your April fool's jokes in by midday 1st April....any later and you are the fool....!

Ferrari 360 : 425bhp, weight 1.1 tonnes
Mercedes 560SEL : 300bhp, weight 1.8 tonnes

= NO CHANCE FOR THE FAT MERC !

30 miles of racing - you must be mighty fit to handle that....you a professional racing driver ?

If professional means I manage to make any money out of it, then no! But I do race.

Power-to-weight only matters in the straights (where he kept coming past me, mainly 'cos once you hit 150, the 126's have very little left and the 360 has lots.)

In the corners, he really couldn't get the best out of that car. (That and a sideways SEL eight feet off your $200,000 car would be a big distraction.)[:D]

No, no, no, no ....power to weight ratio is crucial EVERYWHERE ! on the straights and even MORE so on the bends...

I owned a 2000 360 F1 Coupe, and let me tell you, it'll make pee-pee in a straight line, around a corner, or under braking, all over my 560SEC. Even the SEC I have with 300HP, and the SEC I used to own with 325HP. There is simply no comparison whatsoever...not even in the same league.

So the guy was either not on the gas, or playing around, or too, um, scared/intelligent to drive like he was on a track on a public road, if that's where you were.
