I thought you might enjoy this as much as I did.
I am on vacation in Europe and with plenty of free time and free hotel wifi have been trawling for W220 stuff.
I stumbled on this youtube video.
If like me you like DIY but often end up with a washer or a screw left over and have trouble remembering where parts go then be amazed at this guy.
How to change the aircon evaporator in a W220.
BTW he seems to work about fifty times faster than me.
Enjoy
Brian

You might have warned people to turn OFF their speakers before clicking the link...otherwise it was a great vid, thanks for sharing.

But it made me think that MB should show that to their service customers before they tell them the evaporator needs to be replaced so they understand why it's $3,000. :D

I have a W126 and a W140. It seems the evaporators always go out on these cars and they are a real pain to change out. I was thinking about a W220. Do they seem to have the same issue, and are they just as hard to replace?

The old joke was that car manufacturers hung the evaporator from the factory roof with a string, then built the car around it. I see that Benz still uses the same technique...

Second the move to replace the car.

As long as I'd read daily in the german forums (1,5 years) there was no need to replace the evaporator in W220. It is indeed a issue of the w140 - but we all know the production of W140 started in 1991 and the W220 started 7 years later.

MB needs about 15 hours for the W220.
