Hi all:

No matter where I position the fan direction dial it will only low out the defroster.

Any DIY checks I can do myself?

Thanks,

Mike

You will need to replace the Defroster Actuator Motor. Remove the underside sound panel and then the driver's r/s kick panel.

Remove the ETC Module which is held in place by a spring steel clip. Then remove the ETC bracket and the actuator is behind the bracket.

I had the same problem and found that the lever on the defroster actuator motor broke once I had gotten to the motor. The lever cracked where it attached to the stepper motor and the motor was unable to control the defroster flap.

The new part # A 163 830 10 33 seemed to be made of a different plastic which was stronger than the plastic used for the old lever.

I bought part # A 163 830 10 33 for around $25.

I did not need any equipment to calibrate the defroster dial. I just replaced the lever and put everything back together.

It took about an hour and a half to do the job.
