I've seen SL600's fitted with both one & two piece AMG mono block wheels. We're they a dealer [email protected] time? What was the OEM wheel for the SL600? The SL500's equipped with the Sport Package from 1996-1999 were the only cars fitted with one piece AMG mono blocks to my knowledge.

The monoblock wheels in the photo you provided went on all sport package r129s 1996-1998 (SL500 and SL600).

The monoblock wheel below was for sport package SL500 1999-2002 and for sport package SL600 1999-2000

The two piece wheel below was for AMG (as in the real deal AMG modded cars, SL55, 60, 70, 72, 73) r129s 1996 - 2001/2002, and for sport package SL600 2001-2002.

I think you may be off by a year. I have a one owner 98 SL500 Sport that came with this wheel.

Was it a euro car? Otherwise then they simply changed the wheels. Just look up a 98 500 sport on google images and almost all will have the old style “common” monoblock wheel

Yep those are the common monoblocks from 1998 and older. If it had the newer monoblock from factory the option code would be 794 and have the following readout: AMG COMPLETE WHEELS (4 PCS.): - 8.5 X 18 ET25 FR. AXLE 245/40, 9.5 X 18 ET23 REAR AXLE 275/35. Grabbed that info from a 1999 SL600 with the newer monoblocks using the vin decode site lastvin.com

you can grab the vins of 1998 and 1999 sl500 sports and see the differences with the wheel options descriptions.

note the different ET and lip sizes

Yes, except they don't.

Can someone tell me why the car came new from the dealer with these non-spacer-required wheels?

Good question, my W208 came from the factory with the Monoblock II wheels in 8x18 fronts and 9x18 rears.
The rears sit too tucked in and I had to install 12mm spacers for a perfect stance.

The offsets for the fronts were 31 and 35 rears wrapped in 225/40 and 255/35

Very interesting Ken!
Would you mind sharing what part codes your wheels have stamped on the inside?
I have the s-class wheels that look exactly like yours and they require both spacers and special jug nuts with r14 head and m12 threads to fit the my 98 sl500 properly.
