My factory warranty on my 06 ML350 is expiring in September 2009. I was told that the best place to get an extended warranty is through my MB dealer. Is that true? Can anyone recommend other good alternatives? Is the extended warranty even needed? My MB has about 35K miles on it. I plan on driving it for another 3 years or so.

Thank you so much for your help.

In my experience, it's hard to beat the MB warranty. The downside is you will pay the highest premium to extend yours due to the age of the car. However, several people have said they are negotiable and will vary in cost dealer-to-dealer.

My 2 cents worth. I don't buy extended warranties and believe they are a waste of money. If I did what the industry wants me to do I would be spending $3K+ a year to cover my computers, appliances, TVs, garage door openers, cars, etc. It is such a high profit business, about 50% to the seller, that everyone wants your money. Even if you have a catastrophic failure every 5 years or so you are money ahead to say no.

I totally agree with Post #3. I have never bought one on anything, never wished I had and never will. However, that being said, we all spend/waste our money on different things. With some people they feel they will sleep better at night knowing they are covered by something. Choices, choices.

Its MB or bank the money, the warrant is thru MBUSA, the dealers who discount it are just making less on it like the sale of cars. I dont personally buy warranty, but on big ticket items it does make sense, especially when repaired by the dealer!
