The W201 has two mufflers/silencers. One is located midship after the catalytic converter, the other is the final with the end pipes. Some have removed the mid muffler and replaced it with a straight pipe, which will make the overall system lighter and louder. For a more conservative effect, consider keeping the mid muffler and going with an aftermarket final, like Ansa Supersprint or some of the other makers like OBX, etc.
