Where I am that would be illegal. Make sure you're not going to come a cropper!

I have a '92 2.3 that had the EGR valve. Crack on the manifold that had possibly led to a cracked exhaust valve led me to replace the exhaust manifold. Could only find one without EGR. Replaced with the new exhaust manifold, had to move the O2 sensor down the pipe past the 2 to 1 split. With the EGR tube that goes back to the intake, I just cut crimped and welded shut the intake side. My O2 may or may not be functioning, but I haven't noticed any real performance loss. Also fairly certain my EGR valve was non-functioning to begin, buuuuttt...

I bought a Stromung SS exhaust and I can legally remove my cat . I'm in a rural area that has LOTS of farm equipment so we are exempt . I look forward to the sound and gains I'll be getting .

Not concerned with legality as I already don't have a muffler and the euro plate on the front is technically illegal aswell lol so removing the cat can and egr can be done? In my experience it only makes your car run better atleast that was my experience with my bmw

Nice one chaps - I wish I lived in an area where things weren't so controlled - but I don't!

If i remember correctly, if you remove the cat, it removes the back pressure which in turn will lower your low-end torque.

Our cars already have a pretty shitty torque curve as it is.

There's no turning back now . I'll post my results once I get it done . Lol

can you elaborate on your exhaust set up? checked the stromung website and they don't make exhaust products for mb. i would like to replace my exhaust system and am very interested in what you have done.

It was a group buy through Leistung Autohaus in SoCal . These are limited supply and I paid 1400 . Google their shop and email them . There maybe additional runs of these this year . Stromung deals mostly with BMW and those are more than 1/2 the price of what I paid I believe .

So normally the exhaust would cost 700?

The prices I've seen are 650 range which is probably cat back . Mine is manifold back . The quality is great and a great US made exhaust in Hunnington Beach. It's said to be comparable to Remus . Since they produce so few of these the price is quite a bit more .

i got a quote from remus for $750, shipping included.

from remus:
Unfortunately we do not offer a system specifically for the 190E. We do offer a system for the W210 but it looks like it is for the 2.8/3.2/4.3L(280/320/430) from 1997 on. The chassis code is the same but I believe the pipe diameter will be different and if you were to try and install you may have to fabricate an adapter to accommodate the larger pipe. I have included a picture of the system we have in stock. If you think you can make it work I can get you a great deal on it. It lists for $997 and I can offer that to you for $750 and I will include the shipping.

what do you think? can i make this work? any thoughts on deleting the resonator w/ this install?

That's a deal for sure . Just depends of how much adapting and fabricating and your skill set . I'll get a video up once I get it installed . Here's a video from Leistung from a couple years ago on the m103. Figure shipping is 100 and your getting it free plus a discount .

i'll be waiting for that video!
what's the deal w/ the cat? can it be removed w/o damaging the motor? (m103 - 2.6l) smog not a concern here. lots of conflicting opinions on the forum.

Mine is a straight pipe and no resonator . I think it's fine . No smog control here . Great place to live and have performance cars .

i like the note of the exhaust in the video you posted.

by straight pipe does that mean you eliminated the cat & ran the pipe straight from the header to the muffler?

Yes . It was custom fabricated for this engine thus the price . It's almost a one off . Very few made . Not a big demand for these . The 16v version is more common . It's a nice non ricey sound . Mine will be more so since they video is with a cat since Leistung is in SoCal .
