Yester, my G-class made a horrible noise when the revs go below 1200rpm. It's the exhaust that is broken.

I found out this morning that the centre part of the exhaust needs replacing. That's the part that is right in the centre of the vehicle. I say that since it looks like the exhaust starts one end of the vehicle and ends up on the other side.

I'm completely 'stupid' when it comes to the inner workings of a car. So please bear with my questions.

Is it possible just to replace the centre part or do I need to replace all of the exhaust?

The local mechanic did weld the broken piece that caused the noise. Can I go on with the welding or should I replace it immediately.

Is there any specific part I should order?

Hope I explained myself ok.

Thanks for your help! This forum is great and very helpful.

You can replace each individual piece in the exhaust system. That crossover pipe that goes from right to left is a single part, but yuou can probably get someone to fabricate it locally much cheaper than buying the MB part at ~€100,--.
