hi,<br> <br> I have 42K miles on my CLK430 and I have gone thru 2 sets of front tires (stock michelins) while I just got my rear tires replaced for the first time last week. The outer edge of my front tires wear out while the middle and inner edge of the front tires seems to have at least 50-60% tread left. I have gotten new tires at the dealer both times and they say that alighment is ok. I mostly drive on highways and am not doing anythng that would cause the outer edge of the front tires to wear out.<br> <br> Is this normal for a clk? Has anybody had a similar experience with excessive front tire outer-edge wear? <br> <br> Thanks<br> <br> Sunit

I had the same issue on my 2001 CLK55. I had it in three times to be looked at. They told me that it was within spec and that it was based on my driving style. I don't buy that one bit. I think that the car is set with too much camber. I had it aligned again with a new set of Pilot Sports and don't seem to be having an issue. Good luck!

I can vouch....

for this issue too ...clks are known for this ..... i got someone at the dealer to admitt it . they will always tell you its within specs. what you have to do is find a alignment specialist expalin it and they will adjust the camber but it will be out of MB specs once done .... Benz wont do it ...

I've just replaced my 1st set of fronts after 26k miles. The tyre specialist said that was the best wear he'd seen on a 320 CLK. He said the the clk's are prone to wearing the edges, he did suggest swapping the tyres around after 10k to prolong the wear. I have 17' AMG's on mine and therefore the fronts are a different size to the back. This mean physically swapping tyres, as I believe they have a rotation direction to ensure the tread pattern works.

Maybe tire pressure too...

Luke of the Tirerack posted something a while back that rung true for me. I recently replaced all 4 tires on my CLK55 at 19.8K miles.<br> <br> I had both edges worn on the front, and edges ok but centers worn on the rear. As I recall it, the explanation was too high a pressure wears the centers out sooner, as I was seeing on the rear, and too low a pressure wears the edges out sooner. Of course, bad alignment wears the edge too, but then one edge much more than the other.<br> <br>
