I mean without all the mufflers and stuff strangling it to death? Yeah. Well, I have. Or I did. Until I got around to pulling the back half of the exhaust system (from just downstream of the cat back) off my 560.

So it's still not completely open as the pre-cat and the cat are still there, and the recording I made isn't all that great because none of my mics have the frequency response range to pick up anything much below 100Hz very well... which is, of course, where most of the noise the car makes is.

However, for those of you that're curious...

^ That's what a 560SEL sounds like with no muffler or resonators. [:D]

I took my 560 for a quick blat up the road on open headers when replacing the exhaust a couple of months back. It set car alarms off!

Roar!
Hah. That doesn't surprise me at all, as I've been setting them off with the cat in place. [:0] Not to mention getting a lot of strange looks from people... [:D]

I have always loved the way MB V8's have sounded, Like someone took a big american muscle car engine and gave it to some really talented engeneers. Geeky sounds GREAT! enjoy that 560 i have to deal with the Wheeze of my 3.0 But hey i bet i get to hear my car rev alot more than you do =P

I recently replaced the muffler on my 420 SEL, but before installation I took "er for a spin". We lived in a county club at the time and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing folk's faces as I rocketed past the proshop with my uncorked Benz. Baby, pimp my ride!

It's just a regular MP3... it should play fine unless your computer is older than dirt (read: older than like, 1998).

What OS do you have? Windows 98? ME? 2000? XP? MacOS 9? OSX?

Had to revive the thread, if only to note that the 560 with no mufflers is quieter than the Buick I just bought with mufflers o.o;

Jonathan, you have wooden cams in that 560 engine?

You know: WOOOD'NNNNNNNNNNNN, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD'NNNNNNNN!

Back in the mid-1980s, I once blew the seams out of the center muffler on my 280SEL 4.5 It made looooooovely sounds for the 2-3 days it took for me to get it to the muffler shop. I even recorded it in my garage.
