I have been reading several threads on the subject and done some research myself. Its for my 560SL. Here is what I have come up with.Prices in USD

SGBUMPERSCAR – THE BEST BUMPER FOR CLASSIC CAR! contact name Joni. $1200 plus shipping $220 plus 4.4% Paypal charge or 2% bank charge if by bank transfer.

www.bumperautomobile.com contact name Amy Nguyen $ 910 plus shipping $185 no mention of other charges (yet).

www.bumperclassic.com contact name Rooney $1188 including shipping. Bank transfer or Paypal $30 discount if payment by BT.

From the older threads I read on here it appears that Rooney used to be with sgbumperscar but it seems now that he has gone on his own.

All of the above provide the same bumpers, hardware, brackets, valances and rubber. Brightwork is not chrome but polished stainless steel. Though sgbumperscar does not say stainless steel on their website, I would have to ask to be sure, though unlikely to bother seeing their prices.

Useful info if you are thinking of going Euro.

I would like to know from anyone who has bought from any of these companies, what you think of their products, ease or difficulty in fitting, overall impression and anything useful.

Thanks

Hi (I'm the member [email protected] mentions above)

I bought a set of bumpers from Vietnam 'direct' about 3 years ago; I contacted the seller via their facebook page ( Mary Ptt Classic Bumpers). Service and communications were great, and I am very pleased with the bumpers - they look great on the car.

That said, here's some things to be aware of:

a) They are clearly hand made - if you look at the back (hidden) side of the bumper, you can see where they were beaten/welded into shape - definitely not factory pressing.
b) The frame is similarly hand made, and poorly painted. After a couple of years in my basement it had signs of surface rust; I repainted in POR15, so hopefully it's good now.
c) The fit of the bumpers was excellent. The rear side valences might be a little too far 'tucked under', but I've noticed they vary on other cars - I think the angle may be difficult to get perfect as you tighten the bolts that fasten to the sides.
d) The hardware (nuts, bolts etc) that come with the bumpers seems ok/good, but I bought a full set of stainless hardware from a vendor in the UK that was superb - I wanted all stainless because it's clear the bumper hardware attracts rust!
e) The rubbers that came with the bumper were also ok/good - but I happened to have already got a set of Mercedes 'side' rubbers for the front - they definitely fitted slightly better, so I used those. The rear is all Vietnam.
f) The front bumper brackets were intended for a car that originally had chrome bumpers. I had to cut them slightly at the ends as they were hitting a bulge in the front inner fender. If I recall, it's associated withthe mounting points for the North American park bench bumpers. Not a problem, but something to be aware of.

I've posted some photos below of the fitted bumpers - I'm very pleased with them, and happy that they are stainless, so shouldn't give me rust problems in the future. But, I'm not building a 'concours' car, so originality isn't a huge concern

-Steve

You might want to refresh the page - I think we might have crossed messages (I only just finished uploading the three photos)

I got the bumper rubbers as part of a 'job lot' of SL spares I bought off a Craig's list vendor who was clearing out the garage :) Also got over-riders, but haven't yet decided whether to fit them....I think I prefer the clean look.

mmmm, stick them on with double sided tape and take a photo same angles as the pics you posted and lets have a poll.
I would have done that myself - but you can't 'test fit' them without drilling a hole in the bumper, because there's a mounting bolt welded into them. So, I decided not to fit them and see what the car looks like!

But, here's a photo of the car before I started - with the original bumpers and lights...

I do like the clean look but if the over riders are not like their American cousins (smaller) they might look awesome, do some googling and you might come up with some pics with those fitted. If I go Vietnamese I won't have that choice unless you can still get over riders from MB?

Dear all,
I’m going to order bumpers from Vientam.
the prices are similar from both suppliers Bumperautomobile 920 usd and Ppt -1200 usd almost one year later. Only the shiping is more expensive (because Covid pandemic).
Bumpersautobile declares that bumpers are made from chromed stainless steal.
I would like to know which one has better quality and which one has better fit on W107.
Best regards

I fitted original euro bumpers to my 560SL and car already had holes in the rear in right places. It was only the front bumper that needs a bit of creativity.
I would guess that you need to find mid point of car and measure 500mm either side of that to drill the holes, assuming the 100cm studs apart are from middle point of rear bumper section.
Looks like from your picture that you have a hole already at the mid point.

I have these bumpers, primed, undercoated, painted and assembled by me, but not yet installed. I was "reasonably" satisfied with them and had no problem in getting them here from Viet Nam. The quality was "ok"...I found the support metalwork a little "off", but usable. The rubber was pretty iffy; I could not get the rear rubber strip to follow the contour of the bumper to the required degree no matter what I did. It also had an amazingly bumpy surface. I bought one from K&K (aftermarket Germany) and it was much better. The front bumper rubber supplied was marginally acceptable.

These bumpers are polished stainless, and to be VERY picky, there was a bit of waviness in the polishing, but this is not really a significant issue.

Considering the cost of OEM, I found them to be a very good deal. They were 90% as good for 35% of the OEM price.

If you hold the new bumper up to the back of the car, you'll find that on the passenger side, there is a factory hole with a rubber plug in place that must be removed. One stud in the bumper will pass through the body at that spot. On the driver's side, you'll note that you'll have to drill out one of the original threaded bumper bracket holes so the second stud will pass through here.

Please reply and let us know how you make out!

Thanks for help, it seems my new bumper is a tight fit. I had to drill the old nut hol with 13mm drill and after several attempts, batting the lower valace joints :) I managed to mount the rear bumper. Still it leaves no gap to tail panel on the left but 5mm on the right.
When I'm back from vavation I will attack the front bumper!
