Hi everyone.

I just joined the forum (great site:smile) due to my recent purchased "new" 2004 SLK 200 car. I got it yesterday, but after driving it home - i now get the following error in the display - ESP defective, BAS defective?? Could it be due to the fact, that the car hasn't been driven for almost a year(sitting in a garage)? The car performs fine, but i dont want to drive to much, before figuring out what is wrong.

Pease adwize..

Best regards
Thomas

I replaced the brake switch with the cheapest one I could find on eBay. It was probably made in China. My warning light had come on intermittently. This was a cheap and easy to install fix for me.

These cars required a perfect - not nearly perfect, battery. When the battery is less than perfect it is common for trouble faults like you have to be displayed. With the car sitting for such a long period it would not be surprising if the battery is weak. Have a conductive test done on the battery to confirm the condition.

Good luck.

During the time the car was sitting it may be the battery went down, thus the steering angle parameters have been lost by the control unit. With the engine running turn the steering wheel fully left and right several times to reset the parameters, this may turn the lights off.
