The rain sensing intermittent wipers on my car will sometimes let rain invade the windshield without wiping for many seconds, and at other times will start wiping furiously (and at high speed) for many seconds when there's just a drop of rain on the windshield.

Have others experienced this?

Can it be fixed by dealer?

Thanks.

I have the same issue. In the case of being erratic, I imagine it is just some water stuck on the sensor, in which case, I just switch the wiper off for a second and switch it back on.

On the highway, with enough rain, it will work fine after a minute or so. If in doubt, you can always switch the wipers manually until the sensor picks up enough rain.

That was the VERY reason why I didn't order one. After renting a Benz S320CDI in Germany, I knew I wouldn't want an automatic wiper. It would wipe furiously whenever a gnat has the misfortune of splattering itself on the right spot.
