Engine swap 1982 300D into a 1985 300TD
Has anyone had any experience with this?
I am finding a lot of misc. wiring and sensors on the 85, that the 82 engine does not have. Specifically 3 items: 1. a sensor next to the flywheel. 2. a sensor on the fuel distribution pump between it and the engine. 3. a different 'modulator?' on top of the fuel distribution pump with a clear 'vacuum?' line attached with a bolt.

These are my primary concerns.. What are these items, and are they important?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..
--Joe

The first one may just be a tachometer (engine speed) sensor. The other two I'm not sure, need to see a picture... can't quite tell what you're describing...

-DM :)
The line and valve you're describing go to the transmission. The 85 has a different injection pump and a different transmission than earlier models. I really don't know how big a problem it's going to be for you.
What are they for?
Are they necessary for operation?
Can I just replace the modulator 'thingie' on the injector pump?

Thanks!
