I have a 2007 C230 with about 75,000 miles on it. When I come off of the gas pedal & let it coast, it abruptly (but not violently) downshifts at around 15 mph. Also when accelerating from a stop, it feels/sounds like it stays in lower gear range too long before it upshifts - almost like the transmission is slipping, but I don't think that's what's happening. I had the B-service done about 2 weeks ago, & they said the tranny fluid was dark & smelled burnt & suggested a fluid flush & service. Would the fluid condition make a difference in how the car shifts, or could there be a deeper problem? Mechanic says everything operating normally, but the car just doesn't feel 'right' to me. Also, when the a/c is running, I almost have to FLOOR it just to get it to move, & it whines like a remote-control toy. Pulleys all checked out fine. A/c compressor issue maybe? I know the C230 wasn't built to be a speed demon, but I don't think it was built to drive/sound like crap, either.

Welcome. Please click user cp and edit details to add your vehicle and location to your profile, it's useful information when you're seeking assistance.

The transmission was originally marketed as maintenance free, so it's been ignored far too long. If you're not going to DIY, get it in to an indie mechanic (or indie transmission shop that works on German cars) and have it serviced right away. Do NOT go to the dealer, they no longer stock the proper spec fluid for it. And be sure where you go isn't going to just hook up a pressure flush unit, the pan needs to come off and be cleaned and the filter changed. If you include your location in the profile as suggested above, others may be in your area who can make shop recommendations.

There is an excellent FAQ thread for your transmission in the W210 help/diy stickies, it's in the transmission section and is called the 722.6xx FAQ.

Good luck.
