Towards the end of the summer and fall my car was running hot (would just about reach 100 C) But now that is getting cold out I have my heat on and the car doesn't get over 40 C. Any ideas on what it could be? My thought is that the thermostat is stuck halfway open. But really I have no idea what should I look for?

my thought would be the thermostat valve as well. if it was going good, it should not open til you get to your proper operating temp. however, using the heater can also possibly reduce your coolant temp, as you are taking heat away from the coolant by using it to heat the cabin, especially if your fresh air vent is open and taking in cold air.

Ray

I would say it's the thermostat. My car barely got to 80c when I first bought it and on the highway it would never get close. The thermostat had failed open. Through in a new thermostat and I had heat and it ran in the temp it was supposed too. I think normal thermostats are like 87 degrees but I put an 89 in mine.
