My 1975 450 SL has recently started exhibiting this problem:

Engine starts fine (cold or warm)
If cold, as I press down on the accellerator, I reach a "dead spot" where the engine simply dies. If I continue to press the accelerator, it kicks back in ... as though fuel or ignition electric power had been switched off, then back on as accelerator travels. After nursing the accellerator pedal position and driving for 6 miles or so (fully warmed up?) the problem goes away. Has anyone had this problem ? ... Could a bad / dirty throttle valve switch cause this? Any ideas of what to check?

Thanks in advance !

Same problem...

I had the same problem. My mechanic said it was probably the throttle body but first suggested I flush out the injectors then use high-octane gas. I did and have'nt had a problem since. Good luck!

Stall when cold / Fuel Injector Cleaning

Thanks for the reply. I recently replaced all the fuel injectors and the problem was almost non-existent today - leading me to suspect an electrical/control problem. But I took your advice with cleaning/ high octane gas anyway and will continue to monitor. Thanks !
