Is it possible to determine the engine number based on the VIN for a 79 450SL? If so, how?


Does Mercedes offer any kind of original build specs based on the VIN -- color codes, engine number, transmission type, options, etc.? If so, how/where do I get that?

Contact the Classic Center in California. Link in the EGv 107.
Look at the top of the block behind the left head for the engine number. Picture of location is in the EGv107 C.L.A.P. thread.

Look for the build sheet in your boot, if it's not been removed it will be under the black plastic that the base of the jack sits in.
