own a 05-E320. When I unlock the door I hear the engine make noise for a few seconds. Sounds either electrical or air in suspension? A friend called it "growling", Should I be concerned?

I hear the same noise on mine. Not sure if I would call it "growling", but definitely somehting is going on when I unlock the doors. I really only hear it when I unlock the doors in the quiet of my closed garage (it isn't really audible in an outdoor parking lot). I have been driving the car around since October 29th and whatever this is, it hasn;t apparently caised any problems. I will ask the dealer next time the car is in, which should be next week, for a checkup.

The noise you are hearing is the SBC pump running it's self test and readying the car for operation. It does this everytime you "wake " it up. You can't hear it outside and it may not run the pump if the car has been idle for a short time. It is a normal function for all cars equipped with the SBC system.

It's a Gremlin in your engine. He lives inside the hood of your car. Just leave him alone and he won't bother you. If you had an E55 you would be able to see his eyes in the grill.
