I’ve been in the market for a C63 for a while and I came across this car for a really good deal. 12 c63 coupe with 52k miles. I did notice that it had an interesting sound. I know these cars do have some lifter noise issue but this sounded a little loud to me. Doesn’t seem like a knocking noise but I could be wrong. Hopefully the video does the noise justice. I attached the link. Any advice is appreciated.

I had that exact sound but it fades after awhile of driving. Wasn't consistent either, would happen months apart. I have kept an eye on oil to watch for silver bits but none. Some told me possible spun rod bearing. But here I am almost 2 years later still driving it so I doubt that.

However, I have a cracked flex disc and I think that was the warning sign. If you're under the car does it sound more like its coming from the bell housing?

Worth a check maybe. I'm about to have my flex disc replaced, MB quoted $2,800 for repair. The tell tell sign came after I replaced my engine mounts from my ECE to Creative Steel which raised the engine back to proper position. Now I have this.

If you can hear that slight knock, coming right under the trans tunnel. Never ran into that before in my travels so was a bit of a new sound to me but after listening that's what the shop confirmed as well. Going into MB next wed. so I will find out and hopefully be able to see it once they pull transmission.

Now if I hear that sound again it's for sure just going to be a emptied valve bucket waiting to be refilled with oil. I have new buckets to install as well as I travel this wonderful road of M156 glory!! haha I have 134k miles on my car though and have loved every bit, got with 70k miles a few years ago. Just such fun to drive these in my opinion.

But I'd stay away, in either case that means it's been abused and unless you can get a really good steal of a deal you'll be under water in no time with repairs. Maintenance is key with these M156's.

CatManDoob Not the same problem as George , . And CatManDoob in your case the flex disc will only make a noise when its rotating not at stand still..
Well if engine is on then flex plate is spinning. Also I have this exact sound, happened day after a TCU tune and laying some pulls down. Fast forward a year and a half and everything is fine except flex plate. Take from that what you want.

And even as I said, If I ever have that sound again then I'll know it's more a dropped bucket or something.

In either case it'd be a red flag unless he is getting a really good price.

I believe the flex disc mentioned are the ones on the front and rear of the drive shaft. Also, if your M156 has a lifter tick, let it warm up and give it a spirited rip onto the freeway. Make sure and use the higher end of the rev range. Tick should be gone after that.

I have a '14 C 63 with 30,000 miles on it. I hear that tick when mine has been sitting for a few days. It goes away once the oil temp reaches about 150 degrees F. My mechanic basically told me to not worry about it until it gets worse and starts misfiring.
