Might be piston slap...... I would use an GOOD oil additive to reduce the wear.... to delay the possibly inevitable cylindar reboring.

Engine Knock...Need help!!!
HI,
We just purchased a 88 2.3 and it has a pretty good engine knock.. I guess the guy that owned it ran it out of oil....The exhaust is clear..good compression...I pulled the head..valves look ok and head gasket was OK..
Any Ideas what to look for? I guess rod bearings or mains?
Any help would be great...
