Hi, I'm desperate for some help please! I've got a '98 C240 Sport Auto. Runs really well with no warning lights on the dash. Always starts immediately in the mornings; however after a hot run, when I come to re-start it, sometimes it just cranks but won't fire at all! My garage said it could be the crankshaft sensor and replaced this. They told me they'd run the engine in the workshop to ensure it was hot; and the engine re-started every time they turned it off.

I have just come back from a 10 mile run, just pulling onto my drive and the engine just cut out; and it would not re-start, almost like out of fuel, but not!

Grateful for your thoughts as I thought i'd solved this problem. Apparently no fault codes came up so I'm afraid to go anywhere in it in case I get stranded!!! Help!!!

fuel pump

had the same prob...car ran rough ..then just cut out as i was pulling in driveway and didnt start after that...changed relay..no start...changed fuel filter..still no start..jumped the relay out and put 12v constant to pump...pump went on ..but cut off again....so went under and tapped on pump while key was on and its started again..so fuel pump is shot...when the pumps go seems like they go intermittenly( is that a word?) which is why the car was running rough and sputtering to begin with...

Engine cuts out

Thanks for you replies. When the car cut out yesterday, it was after a run of about 5 miles. It ran perfectly, no juddering or uneven running, that as the engine fell to idle pulling onto my drive, it just died; all the lights came up on the dash. Tried to restart, cranked ok but would not fire. left it 2 hours or so, still no luck! tried again last evening, sprang into life as though nothing had happened! Although my local garage fitted a new crankshaft sensor, this was from G&S; could that be faulty? The car has never died on me the way it did yesterday; the part was fitted to resolve it failing to start when hot. Thank you

Some of these sensors are made in China and were found to be faulty, one batch of sensors were actually too long. Make sure your sensor is OEM or Bosch.
