Before I get flogged for not using the search engine I did several times and struck out.

I am curious as to my E500 engine. I have seen a few recent posts about the
potential for cam sprocket failure. I know that not all the E500 engines are
the same. How can I find out if I may have one that has the potential for this
horrific failure?

2005 E500 4matic wagon/estate. Build date 12-04. VIN# ends 180081.

Is there a DTB that covers the info that I can not find? I have checked my service DVD
and my WIS and must be missing something.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I am aware of DTB S-B-03.30/08j released JUN09 for 272 (350) 273 (550) engines but not aware of release specific to 112 (320) and 113 (500) engines.

Membership FYI:

Check Engine Light (CEL) on with timing chain related fault codes if you out of warranty and within engine serial # range request a goodwill repair citing before mentioned DTB and modified parts:

(1) 350 engine up to serial # 468993 the balance shaft sprocket for the timing chain, 550 up to 088611guide (idler) gear for timing chain have been modified
(2) 350 up to 759427, 550 up to 19352 camshaft adjustment solenoids have been modified
(3) 350 up to 895140, 550 up to 236360 solenoid can leak from sealing ring or through harness connector

Engines produced after serial #ranges are already equipped with modified parts.

Thank you for clearing that up. There was a thread that was recently active where one of
the replies said the E350 and E500 had this potential problem.

I was fairly sure I did not have an affected unit, but was just wanted to make sure.
