I just primed and painted the exhaust system on my Fiat. I found a high temp primer (up to 2500 degrees) and the same in a gloss black at the local Lowes. I'd be surprised if Home Depot didn't carry the same thing and equally surprised if Western Auto, Napa or Kraegan didn't as well.

yes i took them to Dan at car rebuilders and i'm so glad i did, this is not something i would have done myself, carbs had broken gaskets and one was missing the idle needle, not broken not worn but not there at all

bench tested, cleaned and ready to go.

do you think you would need a primer? I would think you can just spray it on
I recently ground down a Kingsford grill and de-rustafied the thing. The high temp paint I sprayed on flaked off in no time. You may not need a high temp primer, but you run the risk of poor adhesion.
