Does the 1.8 and 2.6 share the exact same chassis and body? meaning would you be able to fit any engine that would fit in the 2.6 or 16V into the 1.8 engine bay??

Oh also, the 5 speed manual transmission that comes with the 1.8... are there any other engines that bolt on to it?

The body is the same across all engine sizes used, so you could replace the engine with any of the ones used in W201.

the only main difference between the 2.6 and the 2.3 (4 and 6 cyls) is the 2.6 had a removable rad support which allowed access to the front of the motor.

The whole front end of the 2.6L model is different than the four cylinder cars because of the extra length of the engine. The radiator support is removable, not welded like on the 4 cyl, because the front end has to be removed for any work in the front of the engine.

If you're thinking of a swap, remember that more than the engine differs; the cooling system, a/c, wire looms, etc. Again, your most "cost effective" way towards HP is buying a complete 2.6

ahhh i see. So its alot more work to swap engines in the 4 cylinder models.. were there any other 4 cylinder or modern engines made by Mercedes that is about the same size as the 1.8 and 2.3? For example the C220 Kompressor or somethin...

Many thanks, you guys are great help.

And to go off topic a bit... The factory black interiors in the 190.. is the roof and carpet also black or are they grey??
