Hi all,

I hope you can help me decide. About 1 year ago I had to replace the window regulator because the windows wouldn't go all the way up. Two months later, the alarm started going off in the middle of the night for no reason. Few days later, when driving, I noticed the seat belt blinking light above the rear view mirror was constantly blinking while driving, few days after that, the fuse C kept blowing up. The was blowing up when opening the door. I drove the car without replacing the fuse C which meant I kept the car unlocked. Another couple of weeks went by and my mother drove the car to visit a friend and the car would start at all when she was planning to return. We had to tow the truck to a local mechanic, The mechanic spent about 6 hours and they had to unplug and plug every wire. Somehow they made the car run again, but I noticed that fuse C was replaced by higher fuse (25amp) instead of 16 which should be the right amp...Since then, the car has stalled 2 times while driving (about two months apart). I brought the car the Mercedes dealer to run electrical diagnostics and the computer showed no fault codes. When the car stalled again, I brought the car again to the dealer and they kept the car for 6 days and ran a test every morning. They couldn't find anything. I want to note that when the car stalled, it happened during the first 5 minutes while driving. The dealer changed the fuse C to correct number which is (16amp). The fuse is not blowing up. I decided to take the car to a local independent Mercedes mechanic. He says that I should replace Wire Harness. Should I do it. The Mercedes dealer said that the harness is not that bad small cracks. Note that the car is 1994 and the mileage is only 64k.

I appreciate your help...
Thank you...

If you still have the original eco junk wiring made before 1998, then replace the main harness and the throttle body. Look for the tag on both the harness and the throttle body for the build date.

Everything you need to know about eco junk is covered here.
PeachPartsWiki: W124 Engine Wiring Harness Replacement

Also replace the OVP relay with a new genuine MB or KAE(hler) relay and all the fuses with the updated copper core type in the fusebox to establish a decent electrical baseline. Without a solid baseline, you will be chasing ghosts in the machine resulting in your waste of time & money.

i would listen to what sbaert is telling you,it's a known issues.

also,if you are not a DIYer,i would not bother with that particular dealer any more, your independent MB mechanic sounds much better. small cracks on an original wiring harness that has not been molested,is typical and can easily be causing problems(one of many weird problems actually). if work is performed(even just something like changing the spark plugs) where the wiring harness is bothered/moved around, the insulation can crumble apart much farther.

mileage is not the only factor for the eco junk insulation. time is too. it is the one true cluster-**** on these cars that MB was forced(apparently) to do. in any case, you need to establish a good electrical base line(including for anything in the future) so you can diagnose properly.

imo,it is hugely worth it to fix.

Thank you all for your responses.

I just wanted to also add that that the independent mechanic found the following fault
codes. I am really upset with the service at the dealer...The independent mechanic said that the dealer doesn't look for the codes, there are supposed to be 3-4 things they should check but they only check for 1-2...I assume any of these codes could be a sign for the wire harness replacement?...
EA- Electronic Accelerator
ISC- Idle Speed Control
CC- Cruise Control

Thanks
