That truly is an ugly situation. They also took down the internet, purportedly to stop the rebellious ones from communicating with each other.

our idiot vice president isn't helping:

Asked if he would characterize Mubarak as a dictator Biden responded: “Mubarak has been an ally of ours in a number of things. And he’s been very responsible on, relative to geopolitical interest in the region, the Middle East peace efforts; the actions Egypt has taken relative to normalizing relationship with – with Israel. … I would not refer to him as a dictator.”

He also appeared to make one of the famous Biden gaffes, in comments that could be interpreted as questioning the legitimacy of protesters' demands. Joe Biden says Egypt's Mubarak no dictator, he shouldn't step down... - CSMonitor.com
and they thought sarah palin will be bad...

We will and have always supported our lap dogs, no matter what the consequences to their country or their people. We are 2-faced. Plain and simple.

sure, but at least we can be smart about it and side with the forces of democracy when they're already winning anyway.

Well "democracy" backfires sometimes. Remember Hamas?

BTW, as long as we were getting everything from the Pakistani "President" Musharaff (who was a military man/dictator), we were fine and didn't give a damn about "democracy" or the people of Pakistan. As soon as we decided that we wanted "more", we abandoned him over night and started preaching "democracy" and started supporting Benazir Bhutto. (Pakistan was lucky in the sense that she was assassinated). However, her husband, the most corrupt man in Pakistan became the Prime Minister which is hurting Pakistan and Pakistanis. This current gov't is the most corrupt gov't in Pakistan's history. It is weak. Yet we support it and don't give a damn about Pakistan's people.
