Okay, 1990 mercedes 420sel. My issues I've posted in a previous post may be due to a bad EGR. I have a recent post last night you'll find under the w126 page.

Heres the question. The previous owner took the EGR off, left it open and all that mess, Never blocked it.

I put it back on thinking it was cause of a lot of issues i had since he didnt block it proper.

I wanna know what vacuum goes where?

I have the solenoid between the 2 pipes from the air blower and the motor hooked up, alls right as it should be there.

Now, Which way should the solenoids tip that takes in the air be facing? Towards the motor block or downwards facing the ground?

And, The vacuum lines.

Do I connect the vacuum line thats always sucking air from the EGR Change over to the solenoid on the EGR or is it the line with nothing coming from it?

Theres one on the change over that always sucks in air and the other does nothing that I've noticed.

So I think I had the EGR valve/solenoid or w/e it is. Backwards. It was blowing the hose off the bottom facing the ground. Its supposed to blow air into the motor side not the opposite, Right? I reversed it, And oil pressure went up some and it idles better. But still dies out.

I think it's the distributor cap now. Seems to be fine for high idle but misses badly like its not firing a cylinder and the plugs get super ashy after cleaning, Too easily. Anybody?

Let me take a pic in the am
For sure! It would be much help. I believe I got it right though, As of now. I had the solenoid valve backwards I do believe. It blew air when active towards the ground, Blowing the pipe off of it and the front half it connects to. Now, Its pushing air towards the motor. I think its right. But a pic would help a lot!

Ok here are two pics, but I am afraid one is not very good. There is a vacuum cannister on the air pump and the line goes to the electric solenoid in the picture. The other line comes out of that and goes to the valve on the exhaust manifold on the drivers side. If you need I will try to take a better pic but tell me what you are looking for

I knew those parts already, I needed to know which way the solenoid/cannisters nipple should face, So i know i have it right between the 2 pipes it bridges.

I believe I got it right though this time. It was blowing the hose off the air pump towards the ground the way I did have it. Now, It blows air (I assume) into the motor now and the hoses stay on right.

I got the valve correct, found some more pics online. Appreciate your help though!

Anyway, Narrowed everything down today based on the original post how it ran atm.

Turns out....... My distributor cap is done for! My best guess anyway. It does look scorn and what not, badly. The pins inside.
Explains the missing, Fouling plugs the longer it runs/drives, And fuel on a plug here and there.

Neighbor helped me and looked at it himself, He often fixes cars daily as his thing. He said and i noticed, It didn't look well.

Which, It is a 30 year old cap! So I'd Imagine its time for it to lay to rest lol.

How ever, The cold air crap, It does start much smoother with that un-hooked. It might be leaking fuel on cold start idk.

But thanks guys! Took all the advice in and on other posts I've made. Seems thats all the issue is now.

Today, For example.

Started, smoother than ever idle, Turned to crap in 10 min. Mis-fires, Choking out kinda sounding, Surging.
Now, Wont start, turns for ever and ever, Catches on but just won't properly to start.
