Hey all,

My wife has a 97 C230 and the check engine light decided to make itself known about 3 weeks ago. According to the code (PO400), the problem is an EGR System fault where the ECM detected too little flow on the EGR system.

Probable causes were:
1. Blocked passage on EGR system
2. Failed EGR valve
3. EGR solenoid faulty
4. Failed EGR pressure sensor

If anyone has any advice on where to begin or if you've replaced any of these items, I'd apprciate any info you could give me.

Thanks!

Usually on EGR valves it is the carbon that builds up and blocks flow. Often times techs will replace the EGR valve with a new one and then get a code again, since it the carbon build up was not addressed. Best remedy is to take the EGR off and then clean out the metal tubes that it is hooked up to. A speedometer cable attached to drill does the job.
