Hi,

How do i check transmission fluid level on 1999 E320? I purchased the 'dipstick' but engine running, not running, hot, cold...not sure how to interpret the markings and level indicated.

I did notice that when wiping fluid from dipstick end with white shop towel flui is pretty black. 164,000 on vehicle.

Transmission acting up a little, suspect the plug leakage issue. No CEL light.

Any help greatly appreciated. I do alll my own work but looking for a little tech help.

Thanks
Ed

Welcome, Ed. Please take a moment to click user cp and edit details so you can easily add your vehicle and location to your profile, it's often useful information when you're seeking assistance.

Also, note that you posted into the AMG "E55" section, not the sedan section. Scroll down further and you'll find the non-AMG W210 sedan forum.

Once there, you'll find a bunch of help/diy stickies that will answer most of the questions you'll have about your car. And if you scroll a bit down the main page you'll find a very recent thread about measuring transmission fluid.

I will say that changing the fluid and that plug are a good place to start.

Since I'd prefer to teach a man to fish rather than give him one, I'll leave it at that for now. ;)

Good luck.
