Right, my EDC light is on. Van is running fine and I can't really tell if it's in limp mode until friday when it's all back together and I take it for a drive. It was on when I originally drove it home and the van had no problems going over 3k revs though.

I have an Autel ms300 code reader and it won't read any codes. It will, however, reset the EDC light for 3 seconds before it comes back on.

It comes back on before the engine is started.

No issues with glowplugs.

Fuel filter looks like it hasn't been changed in an age (rusty on top)

No air in fuel system that I can see now.

Sooooooooo.......

Anybody have any ideas?

I'm gonna change the fuel filter see what happens. As far as I can tell it will either be:

1) Fuel filter shagged leading to low fuel pressure
2) HP fuel pump failing
3) O rings on the pump/common rail
4) Pressure sensor on the rail
5) Dodgy injector and/or connection (seems to be running ok so unlikely I think)

Anything I've missed?

Anybody have any ideas?

here are the WIS fault sheets

They are a little deep as they refer to fault codes on the dealer digital readout.

At least they tell you of all of the bits involved and many faults could be down to bad connections or faulty bits.

Hope its of some help.

by the way EDS and EDC are interchangeable - Electronic Diesel System and/or Electronic Diesel Control ... which term is used depends on the vehicle documentation and when/where it originated.

Thanks Malc.

I'm off to get converted from a disabled vehicle back to PLG tomoz and will take it for a bit of a drive and see what happens.

After that, I guess it's out with the multimeter!

I hate chasing down electrical faults!

I know the problem, I spent the end of my working life as production and R&D engineer getting controllers to work properly and reliably after they had been "designed" by degree engineers.

Stuff seems to be built "just within tolerances" because its "efficient" and "cost effective".

I remember history lessons at school, when we looked at the victorian engineers.

Oddly enough the Clifton suspension, teeside Transporter bridge and the first flyover/underpass at highgate are all still in use....... makes you wonder how long the iphone will last......... "built for the future" doesn't seem part of the ethos anymore.

At least MY designs are still working......... But then I am perfect

and modest.

Oh well, I've got the same sort of problems on the 638 I just got......... why the hell are all the switches missing???

this all rings too true - I was a Highway Electrical Engineer in a former life, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away and I have to admit I did have a tendency to "over engineer" things - at least all the systems I did are guaranteed to still be working.

I blame Colin Chapman and Lotus :D

I wouldn't say over engineering but rather "enough" engineering.

I started my working life on the road in music, if the sound went off it wasn't "oh dear call a repair man" but can I get out alive....... it happened to ELO at their first ever gig at Dunstable civic hall...... they were snooty and rotten to us (gary moore as support) mainly because the session men were straight from the royal college of music......... when their equipment failed, one piece after another, we laughed all the way back to hamstead...........

Later in life I taught electronics after the toxteth riots....... they were fantastic but you quickly learned that if it could go wrong they made it go wrong and if "its unbreakable" they could break it.

Oddly enough my students at the Uni didn't have that ability......

Still you learned to look at a design and spot lots of faults and possible faults others didn't see...... it was a good experience, unfortunately circumstances would conspire to end my working life very early.
