All this stuff is not 92 to 98 , the amp shown is for a non bose syst 92-94, the mirrors changed style twice, evidently someone has parted out a car, "caviat emptor" it worked when removed, and the the suggested prices are over hyped.

Hey Peter,

You said this amp is for a non-BOSE 1992-1994? Weren't all W140's BOSE? And one of the pictures has a BOSE logo on it . . .

I really need a new amp for my '93 300SE, and I keep forgetting to pull it rom the trunk of my Dad's car to get the part number. This auction is over before I will see my Dad's car again. Do you think this amp will work in our '93 300SE?

Thanks!
Bryan

OK, I just phoned another Mercedes dealer and got a more helpful parts guy.

After running the number 140 820 22 89, he said it would work for my car (same as the first dealer I phone). He said that this part number is valid for models years 1992-1997.

Then I told his that some people are telling me that the part number 140 820 00 89 is the proper amp for that car, so he ran that number too. Sure enough, that amp also fits my car. He was baffled.

So he looked in the parts diagrams or something, and THEN discovered that the 140 820 00 89 is for 1992-1993, and that the 140 820 22 89 is for 1994-1997.

I wonder why the Mercedes parts manual has this weird discrepency?

Anyways, I guess the bottom line is that the amp will not work. The search continues . . .

Eventually, I will probably just end up getting my amp rebuilt. I thought I could buy this used amp, and use it until it beraks (it is ineitable) and then use it to play around with rebuilding myself. Oh well.

Thanks for the help,
Bryan

I am confused also, I was always under ther opinion it changed in 94. when I looked at the web site it was common 91-97...Becker shows two dealers in Canada on their web page. The Benz dealer here has refurbs in stock $600

You are right . . . it did change in 1994 (which is what I said above). TS from Becker said the following:

"There were three different versions of the Bose amps in various year MB's. If they all did the same thing, there would have only been one. The system in the 1993 (1432) and the system in the 1994 (1492) are very different. The audio outputs of a 1432 is based on two channels, the 1492 is four."

So, from what I gather, it seems like:

140 820 00 84 is for 1992-1993
140 820 22 84 is for 1994-1997
??? ??? ?? ?? is for 1998-1999

The 140 820 00 84 looks much large (physically) than the 140 820 22 84 as well . . .

Bryan

Brian,
The picture of it does not look proper, I have had this amp out and in my hands. On my 92 it is a big box with a connector on the front, I looked at another page and it looks like a "C" amp
